This work is a short animation about the power shift between a creator and their creation.
When an artist becomes deeply immersed in their work, there comes a moment when the creation slips beyond control—gaining its own momentum, its own will. To catch that intense moment, the creator becomes consumed by desire, ignoring health, finances, and reality, pouring everything into the work like a puppet pulled by invisible strings.
The creation, seductive yet cruel, appears like a devil—breaking apart the creator’s daily life and the rules of the world. It coils around them with emotion, obsession, desire, and inspiration, driving them to push harder, break further, and give more.
Eventually, the creator loses all sense of agency.
The result may become their greatest work, but it could just as easily cost them their life and everything around it.
In these moments, we face the same question again and again:
Is it really only black or white?
Is compromise impossible?
And if we did compromise, would the creation still burn as brightly?
It’s a question every creator encounters at least once:
Will you compromise with the creation for your life, or dedicate your life to the creation?
The creator in the film says, “Life is long, and art is short.”
But the devil whispers back, “Art is long, and life is short.”

창작자가 작업에 몰입하다 보면, 어느 순간부터 자신의 창작물이 통제 너머로 생명력을 갖고 이야기를 끌어나갈 때가 있다. 그 강렬한 순간을 놓치지 않기 위해 창작자는 욕망에 사로잡히고, 건강이나 재정 같은 현실을 외면한 채, 마치 실에 매달려 손을 움직이는 꼭두각시처럼 모든 것을 쏟아붓게 된다.
창작물은 매혹적이지만 잔인한 악마처럼 창작자의 일상이나 세간의 룰을 무너뜨리고, 오직 자신을 더 완벽하게 만들게 하기 위해 감정, 욕망, 집착, 영감 같은 것들로 그를 휘감는다. 결국 창작자는 그의 의지를 송두리째 빼앗긴다.
그 작품은 그가 할 수 있는 최고의 작품이 될 수 있겠지만 동시에 끝난 후에는 그의 목숨도, 삶도 앗아갈 수 있다.
이런 상황에서 우리는 늘 질문하게 된다. 정말 흑과 백만이 존재할까? 적당한 선에서의 타협은 불가능한 걸까? 하지만 그렇게 한다면, 과연 그만큼 강렬한 창작물이 나올 수 있을까?
이것은 아마, 창작자들이 언젠가 한번쯤은 마주하는 질문일 것이다. 당신은 삶을 위해 작품을 포기할 것인가 아니면 작품을 위해 삶을 조종하겠는가.
극 속의 창작자는 말한다. “인생은 길고, 예술은 짧다.”
하지만 악마는 속삭인다. “예술은 길고, 인생은 짧다.”
그리고 2017년의 나는, 그 악마의 손을 들어주었다.
